Welcome to Hate City Cycles.

In a world of disposable plastic and planned obsolescence, we believe in the machines that were built to last forever—if you treat them right.

Hate City Cycles is a dedicated vintage motorcycle repair and restoration studio located in Decatur, GA. We don't sell scooters, we don't mount car tires, and we don't work on anything with a computer brain.

We specialize exclusively in Vintage Japanese Motorcycles (1960s–1980s). Whether it's a Honda CB750, a Yamaha RD two-stroke, or a Kawasaki Z1, we speak the language of carburetors, points, and kickstarters.

The "Hate City" Name

"Why so hateful?"

It’s a nod to our roots. Decades ago, Atlanta branded itself "The City Too Busy to Hate." But if you’ve ever tried to wrestle a rusted swingarm bolt out of a 40-year-old frame in the Georgia humidity, you know there’s a little bit of hate involved in the love of vintage mechanics.

"Hate City" represents the grit, the grease, and the stubborn refusal to let these classic machines die. It’s about the struggle to make something beautiful run perfectly again.

Meet the Mechanic: James "Bolt" Quattlebaum

I founded Hate City Cycles in 2019 with a simple mission: To build the shop I wish existed when I started riding.

I am a one-man operation. When you drop your bike off, you aren’t talking to a service writer who has never held a wrench. You are talking to the guy who will be diagnosing your electrical gremlins, rebuilding your carbs, and test-riding your bike to ensure it’s safe.

My Philosophy:

  • Transparency: I will never sell you a repair you don't need. If your bike isn't worth fixing, I will look you in the eye and tell you.

  • Precision: "Good enough" isn't good enough. I use torque wrenches, I measure twice, and I treat your bike like my own family is going to ride it.

  • Preservation: These bikes aren’t being made anymore. My goal isn't just to get them running for the weekend; it's to keep them on the road for the next generation.

Why We Are Different (The "Anti-Dealership")

Big shops make money on volume. They want to get bikes in and out in 45 minutes.

Hate City Cycles is different.

  • Appointment Only: We don't have a chaotic showroom. We operate by scheduled appointments so every bike gets dedicated bench time without distraction.

  • The "No Band-Aid" Rule: We don't do patch jobs. If a fuel tank is rusty, we won't clean your carbs until the tank is fixed. We fix the root cause, not just the symptom.

  • Specialized Tooling: From ultrasonic cleaners to vapor blasting cabinets, our shop is purpose-built for vintage restoration, not modern oil changes.

Got an old machine gathering dust? Let’s wake it up.
